Spanish-Language Chapter 42 Workshop Highlights the Need for Inclusive Planning in Houston
This month, we hosted a Spanish-language Chapter 42 workshop in partnership with @houstonplanning, bringing together developers, architects, surveyors, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations such as @avenue_cdc, @ataleoftwobridges, @americanredcross, @strongtownshtx, and many more.
This event was a powerful statement about the importance of accessible and inclusive planning in Houston. Spanish-only events are not just beneficial—they are necessary. More than 40% of Houston and Harris County residents are of Hispanic origin, and many speak Spanish as their primary language. Chapter 42, Houston’s core land development and subdivision ordinance, directly affects how people live, build, and grow their communities.
Thank you to the City of Houston for listening to our advocacy and for recognizing the importance of equity in planning, community engagement, and multilingual outreach. Ensuring that Spanish-speaking residents and professionals can fully participate in urban development discussions is essential for a more connected and inclusive Houston.
